Farewell Fr. John

From the moment of my ordination and throughout my priesthood, God has led me to people who brought me closer to Christ and places that have enriched and strengthened my vocation. God led me here five years ago to Cranberry, to wonderful people and extraordinary moments, and I said forever to what lay ahead.

I’ve been called again to take on another challenge, another opportunity. Cardinal Sean has asked me to become Pastor of a new Collaborative- Our Lady of Grace in Chelsea/Everett and St. Mary of the Assumption in Revere, beginning in June. Fr. Walter Keymont, currently the pastor of St. Joseph’s in Kingston, will take the reins here.

Fr. Keymont was my pastor from 1996 to 1998 at St. Ann’s in Neponset, and he truly has a gift with young people- he was chaplain of Archbishop Williams High for several years- and has served in several parishes in the South Shore. He has built a strong and vibrant parish in Kingston. This will be his first Collaborative setting, and there simply is no better place for him to begin. It’s clear to me that OLOG and St. Mary’s will be quite a challenge- a Collaborative to build from city parishes in transition, where at least 4 languages are spoken, but I believe that I’m ready for it.

It’s hard to find the words to describe what we’ve accomplished together in five short years, especially by our incredible staff and our committees- we’ve found the hope and love to trust one another and make this amazing leap of faith- we’ve accompanied each other on so many journeys- and there is still much to do. I am confident that Cranberry with Fr. Keymont’s leadership will take it all on.

There’s plenty of time for us all to walk through the coming months- full speed ahead! As we look ahead to Easter, sacramental season, and the celebration of our CCC’s anniversaries, there is much to celebrate, to rejoice and thank God for all we share. I ask for your prayers, I promise you mine. I’ll only be 45 minutes away- and I’ll do all my weddings!

In Christ, Fr. John
